Second President of National Assembly is to visit Mongolia

On 14 July Amb. J. Enkhsaikhan met with Mr. Fritz Neugebauer, Second President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria and exchanged views on some issues concerning bilateral relations and promoting cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

THE NAADAM FESTIVAL

In its largest investment in Mongolia to date, the EBRD is raising the standards in the country’s mining industry with a $180 million loan for the construction of the rst coal washing plant in Mongolia.

A Mongolian chess player B.Anu won a gold medal in Chess World Cup competitions held on June 11-13 in Nevada State, USA.
The chess competitions named after World champion Susan Polgar brought together 1,114 chess players from various countries. Central bank’s policy rate was raised by 1 percentage point, reaching 11 percent effective from May 12. On May 10, the Board of Directors of the Bank of Mongolia made this decision in order to tighten the monetary policy. By doing so, Bank of Mongolia’s loan rates to commercial banks will be increased by 1 percent.

MONGOLIA TRADES WITH 103 COUNTRIES

As of the first quarter of this year, Mongolia traded with 103 countries from all over the world and total external trade turnover reached USD 1076.2 million, of which exports made up USD 499.0 million and import did USD 577.2 million. External trade balance in the first quarter of 2010 showed a deficit of USD 78.2 million and increased by USD 6.7 million or 9.3 per cent, against the previous year. |

As of the first quarter of this year, 2.7 million female breeding stock have given a birth and it is equals to 14.5 per cent of total livestock at the beginning of the year. Survival of young animals amounted to 2,130.8 thousand heads decreasing by 2,702.1 thousand heads or 2.3 times against the previous year.

Government to issue 1.5 million to every citizen

At an irregular cabinet meeting on April 2, the government resolved to issue Tgs1.5 million to every citizen. To accomplish this, Tgs 1 million will be delivered by covering retirement pensions and health insurance premiums for people, issuing vouchers for education, health services, apartment purchases, and Tgs 500,000 given in cash over 2011 and 2012.

Mongolia prepares for spring sowing

Mongolia will plant crops on 282.200 hectares of land this spring, of which, 272.700 hectares would be used for sowing wheat. It plans to sow potatoes on 13.200 hectares of land and vegetables on 7.100 hectares of area, an official of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry said.

Wednesday's cabinet meeting made a decision to free the Japanese citizens from the visa to enter Mongolia. In other words, the Japanese can stay here for 30 days visa free.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs G.Zandanshatar stated that the main aim of this decision is to increase number of Japanese tourists to Mongolia. Within the last decade, 12-14 thousand Japanese visited Mongolia a year.

The second group of the 9th contingent participating in UN peacekeeping operations will leave for Sierra-Leone next week. This contingent has 50 servicemen of the Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF).
