On 27 August, Amb. J. Enkhsaikhan met with Mr. Yukiya Amano, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and exchanged views on the preparations for the 54th General Conference of the Agency. Amb. J. Enkhsaikhan has been nominated by the Far Eastern group in the Agency to serve as President of the General Conference which is scheduled to be held on 20-24 September at IAEA headquarters in Vienna.

The two sides exchanges views regarding the issues to be discussed at the conference as well as the procedures to make the most efficient use of the time and resources available for the conference. The provisional agenda of the General Conference includes 23 items, including measures to strengthen international cooperation in nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety, nuclear security, including measures to protect against nuclear and radiological terrorism, strengthening the Agency’s technical cooperation activities, strengthening the Agency’s activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications, application of the Agency’s safeguards in the Middle East, Agency’s budget for 2011 and other issues.

Amb. J. Enkhsaikhan and Director General Y. Amano also exchanged views on preparations for the session of the Board of Governors to be held on 13 September as well as for the international ministerial and high level meeting of representatives of 8 PACT Model Demonstration Site (PMDS) countries scheduled to be held in early November in Mongolia. The Director General confirmed his active participation in that meeting and paying a working visit to Mongolia.
