On 5 April the Mongolian Mission to International organizations based in Vienna together with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna hosted a round-table-discussion (RTD) on promoting the goals of non-proliferation. The aim was to promote informal discussion and exchange of views on issues related to nuclear-weapon-free zones and promoting implementation of the decisions of the 2010 NPT Review Conference. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Willibald Pahr was the keynote speaker who shared his views and thoughts on how to promote in today’s conditions the noble goals and practical measures of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives based in Vienna as well as representatives of Austrian research institutions and academia took part in the discussions. The participants touched upon such issues as strengthening the existing nuclear-weapon-free zones and promoting establishment of new zones, including in the Middle East. The situation at the Fukushima Daichi NPP was also discussed.
Ambassador J. Enkhsaikhan briefed on the history of Mongolia’s modern foreign relations, which is marking this year its 100th anniversary. He also informed the participants on the consultations with the five nuclear-weapon states regarding institutionalizing its nuclear-weapon-free status.
