26 Sep 2011

Amb. J. Enkhsaikhan, Mongolian Resident Representative to International organizations based in Vienna and national coordinator for Mongolia’s nuclear-weapon-free status met in Vienna with Amb. S. Burk, Special Representative of U.S. President for Nuclear Nonproliferation and exchanged views regarding preparations for the NPT review conference to be held in 2015. The first meeting of the preparatory committee of the conference is scheduled to be held in Vienna in April-May 2012. They also discussed preparations for the Forum on Experience of Possible Relevance to the Creation of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (NWFZ) in the Middle East, to be held on 21-22 November of this year at IAEA.

During the meeting the ambassadors also exchanged views on how to institutionalize Mongolia’s nuclear-weapon-free status. Amb. J. Enkhsaikhan explained Mongolia’s position on the issue. Amb. Burk informed that the five nuclear-weapon states were consulting among each other on how to respond to the initiative. The two sides agreed to stay directly in touch on the issue.
