Contemplating next move to promote Mongolia’s status
09 Jan 2012

Foreign Minister’s council on 20 December 2011 considered the state of implementation of the annual plans to promote Mongolia’s nuclear-weapon-free status in the past 4 years, approved a plan of action to promote it in 2012, which is the year of the 20th anniversary of initiative to turn the country into a single-State nuclear-weapon-free zone, and decided to inform about the issue the Security and Foreign Policy Standing committee of the State Great Hural.

On 4 January 2012 the Security and Foreign policy Standing committee of the State Great Hural considered the information provided by Mr. Zandanshatar Gombojav, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade on the state of promotion of Mongolia’s nuclear-weapon-free status and its institutionalization. The committee commended the activities of the Ministry undertaken so far in this regard, expressed its general support for the planned 2012 activities and agreed that Mongolia needed to work closely with the five nuclear-weapon states in order to properly institutionalize the status. It asked the Minister to provide information on the follow-up activities to be undertaken to the Standing committee and the National Security Council by the end of the year.
