The Second Conference of states parties to Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones and Mongolia (NWFZM) was held on April 30 at UN Headquarters in New York for the purpose of strengthening NWFZ regimes and contributing to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. The conference represented 114 members of the United Nations that have pledged not to acquire nor allow stationing nuclear weapons in their territories. It adopted the Outcome Document, which, inter alia, expressed full support for Mongolia’s policy of institutionalizing its nuclear-weapon-free status, and welcomed the talks being held by Mongolia with its two neighbors, to conclude the required legal instrument to this effect.
