On May 28, President Ts. Elbegdorj received Judith A. McHale, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.

Beginning the meeting, the President underlined an intensive widening of Mongolia-USA cooperation, and pointed out that Mongolia wants to expand its relations and cooperation with the US Administration on the basis of the bilateral comprehensive partnership principles. President Elbegdorj emphasized that democracy and the economic relations of free market have become the values shared by the two countries’ people. He noted that Mongolia needs assistance from the USA for strengthening its market economy system and improving its capacity.

The President underlined that for the Mongolian youth it has been important to gain high education in order to develop the country, and expressed willingness to increase the number of the Mongolian students to study in the USA. He said he was satisfied with the agreement of the sides to found a joint fund for scholarships by expanding the US Fulbright Program.

In response, Mrs. McHale said she will work for providing the Mongolian youths with opportunities to study in the USA. “According to a survey, 95 percent of foreign students are studying in our 150 universities and colleges, so Mongolian students also have ample opportunity to study in US schools,” she said.

The dignitaries agreed to cooperate by seeking possibilities to give scholarships to low-income students and increase the number of scholarships for bachelor’s degree students.
