France’s Areva Group CEO, Ms. Anne Lauvergeon arrived in Mongolia on October 5, 2009 for a working visit.

During her stay, a Memorandum of Understanding between Mongolia’s Atomic Energy Department (AED) and the Areva
Group was signed by S. Enkhbat, the AED’s head, and Ms. Lauvergeon to cooperate in using radioactive materials and atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
On the same day, Ms. Lauvergeon met with President Ts. Elbegdorj.
The President started by congratulating Ms. Lauvergeon on signing the Cooperation Agreement between Mongolia’s Atomic Energy Department and Areva Group. He said that the Mongolian State views the atomic energy sector as extremely important and is prioritizing ecologically-safe technological progress and meets stringent security requirements. The President underlined Mongolia’s continuing willingness to cooperate with experienced countries, such as France, in this sector.
“We value successful cooperation highly and I would like to reiterate that we are interested in increasing our investment and operating for mutual benefit. I am pleased to inform you that our company will assist Mongolia to train its mining specialists,” said Ms. Lauvergeon in turn.
Ms. Anne also met with Prime Minister S. Bayar and Foreign Minister S. Batbold, to share views on Mongolia-France relations and cooperation in their trade and economic sectors.
Areva, established under the French Government, is one of world’s largest atomic energy groups. Its Mongolian operation has become more active during recent years, with increased investment.
