Economic Day of Mongolia in Berlin

The Economic Day of Mongolia, themed ‘Cooperation in Energy, Construction, Infrastructure and Investment Opportunities’, in Berlin, the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), on October 6, 2009, was held in the context of the 7th Asia-Pacific Weeks of Berlin that took place under the theme ‘Asia-Pacific: Partner for a Common Future’, with participation by some 80 officials from the German State, Government, media, professional unions and companies.

At the Day’s opening, Dr. Bernd Pfaffenbach, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, mentioned an opportunity for Mongolia and Germany to develop trade and economic ties, and confirmed a possibility to expand the Training Program for Managers being implemented by the Federal Ministry. In addition, Berlin’s Secretary of State, Barbara Kisseler, greeted the Mongolian delegates warmly, drawing attention to Berlin City’s significant contribution to Mongolian-German relations.

Mongolian delegates included: B. Bolor, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; J. Bat-Erdene, State Secretary at the Ministry of Road, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development; B. Ganzorig, head of the Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade Agency (FIFTA); and Ch. Ganbat, an advisor to the
Minister of Road; attended the opening event, delivering reports on: Mongolia’s present economic development situation; Mongolian-German trade and economic relations; the country’s investment environment; and opportunities to develop collaboration in the road, transportation, construction and urban development sectors.

Reports given by German specialists covered: ‘Cooperating with Mongolia in the Agricultural Sector; and the ‘Basis of Mongolia’s Rapid Economic Development is Copper and Coal Resources’.

At the end of the opening event, T. Galbaatar, Mongolia’s Ambassador in the FRG, proposed that their countries cooperate intensively to invest in Mongolia’s infrastructural, minerals, and mining sectors, with the objective of achieving a 10-fold increase in bilateral trade turnover.

This ‘Economic Day’ event had been co-organized by Mongolia’s Embassy in Germany; the FRG Ministry of Economics and Technology; the Asia-Pacific Forum; the Mongolian Forum; and Berlin Partner companies in Berlin.
