Mongolia’s climate change effort commended
18 November 2010

On November 12, President Ts.Elbegdorj received a letter from Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Secretariat of the Convention to Combat Desertification. The letter said “I received the news about the meeting of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of Mongolia in a Gobi desert area called Gashuunii Khooloi with the view to call the attention of the international community to the effects of climate change, desertification and land degradation in Mongolia.
Such a timely meeting as per your initiative will certainly contribute to efforts being made towards a sound international agreement on climate change.
I do hope that Mongolia will benefit from the necessary supportive measures to adapt to climate change and fully implement its national action program to combat desertification, land degradation and the effects of drought.
The Secretariat of the UNCCD would like to reiterate its full support to efforts being made by Mongolia to fulfill its obligations as a Party to the UNCCD.”
