On November 2-4, Mongolia’s National Human Rights Report was discussed and appraised by the UN Human Rights Commission.
It was emphasized that the National Report contained the required information and stated difficulties in protecting human rights, that the National Human Right Commission collaborated with civil societies and NGOs to prepare the report and capital punishment was delayed.On November 22, Prime Minister S. Batbold called a delegation led by G. Bayasgalan, head of the Working Group and State Secretary of Justice and Internal Affairs Ministry and Ms.Rana Flowers, UN Resident Coordinator a.i. in Mongolia.
At the UN Human Rights Commission meeting, 129 recommendations were given to Mongolia for paying attention on ensuring human rights in the next four years. It is possible it intends to reply whether it will accept the remaining 11 recommendations during its next plenary session of UNHRC to be held in March of 2011.
Mongolia was recommended to join international treaties and conventions on human rights, clearly determine its mechanism to implement national legislation in accord with the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture, and create a legal environment to protect the rights of women, sexual minorities and disabled persons, combat human trafficking and avoid of any form of discrimination.
Prime Minister S. Batbold told the Working Group that the National Report was done well and issues asserted in the recommendations should be accurately studied.
