The pandemic flu is a global outbreak of a new strain of influenza A virus, subtype H1N1, termed Pandemic H1N1/09 virus by the World Health Organizations (WHO). It was first identified in April 2009.
The disease has also been termed novel influenza A (H1N1), and colloquially called swine flu. The outbreak was observed in Mexico. Cases of swine flu have risen slightly, with an estimated 5,000 died of 414,000 infections of the laboratory-confirmed in the beginning of November, reported to the WHO.
The Mongolian Government has provided financial backing for combating swine flu, buying appropriate drugs, medical equipments to treat and diagnosis, cleansing agent, fuel for ambulances, and attractive wages for medical practitioners.
A Working group, established by a directive of Mongolian Prime Minister, convened on November 3, and declared 14-day high state of disaster preparedness on swine flu. In addition, the meeting made a decision to distribute supplementary production worth Tg1 million, to some people, who are at risk of complications if they catch swine flu, such as pregnant or breast-feeding women, students, poor families or with a lot of children, bedridden patients and homeless. Many international and domestic organizations, such as World Health Organization, World Vision, G-Mobile, MT Co.,Ltd, Monos group and Nakhia company have rendered supports and grants to combat H1N1, even now they are suffering under economic recession. However, the World Health Organization has offered to provide Mongolia with the vaccine, which is enough to reach 1/4 of Mongolian population. People who are at high risk need to be vaccinated first.
These groups are,
- People aged under six months and over 65 years,
- All pregnant women,
- People who have respiratory illness background,
