The ‘2009 Chinggis Khaan Cup’ World Judo Championships took place in Ulaanbaatar from October 31 to November 1, 2009 under the Mongolian President’s auspices. This was the first time that these Championships were held in Asia and 128 male and female judoists came to compete–from the Czech Republic,
Spain, Germany, Chinese Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, the Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Kh.Tsagaanbaatar now World No.1 Judo Champion
As the host country, Mongolia grabbed 27 medals, i.e., 5 gold, 6 silver and 16 bronze and, in the finals, the Mongolian team took second place – after being beaten by the Korean team which won 7 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals–but followed by the Ukraine team with 2 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze; the German team with 1 silver and 2 bronze; the Japanese team with 1 silver and 1 bronze; the Polish team with 1 silver; the Kazakhstani team with 1 silver; the Czech team with 1 bronze; and the Uzbekistani team with 1 bronze.
Kh. Tsagaanbaatar, a Mongolian State Honored Sportsman and now the World No. 1 since winning the gold metal in the 66 kg category, was selected as the Championships’ overall best judoist and was awarded the Special Cup. In the meantime, Korea’s Kim Na-Young was selected as the Championships’ best female
judoist.

A moment of action
Male and female gold medal winners in all the weight categories’ were given USD 3,000 cash prizes, with silver medalists receiving USD 2,000 and bronze medalists USD1,000 in cash.
