The cabinet discussed and backed a draft resolution of parliament approving a policy on introducing common principles, standards and norms of the European Union (EU).
The cabinet then decided to submit it to Parliament. It has been over 20 years since Mongolia transited to a market economy; however, it has not reformed the quality of standards sufficiently. Because of this, the national standards system tends to be backwards. For instance, about 40 percent of approximately 5,900 standards being officially followed in Mongolia, do not meet international standards.
Therefore, the government of Mongolia aims to reform its standards by introducing European standards in order to update the national standard system in accordance with
international levels.
