Heightened state of alert extended by 2 weeks
24 November 2009

Deputy Prime Minister M.Enkhbold told the press on November 18, 2009 that it had been decided to extend the heightened state of alert period by a further 2 weeks.

Cabinet members discussed the matter at their November 18 meeting and decided on the 2-week extension, as well as on some regulations based on the current situation wherein the H1N1 swine-flu outbreak has not effectively decreased.

Cabinet’s previous decisions: prohibiting public catering, pubs and restaurant from remaining open after 9pm; banning conferences and any gatherings involving large numbers of people, as well as cultural and sports events, are to remain in effect. Aimag and city governors and emergency department heads were tasked to apply disinfecting and sanitizing rules.

All Ulaanbaatar’s markets are to operate normally from November 19. Based on the required antiviral, disinfection and sanitization measures being taken according to proper instructions, long-distance bus and train transportation have returned to normal operations and schedules, but all passengers’ health conditions are still to be monitored.

The regular autumn military recruitment term has been reextended by 2 weeks. Children at kindergartens and primary school 1st–5th graders are to still stay at home for a further 2 weeks, whereas middle graders and seniors are to restart their studies on November 23.
