Mongolia’s Resident Representative to IAEA Amb . J. Enkhsaikhan has taken over the Chairmanship of the Far Eastern Group in the IAEA for 2010 from the Resident Representative of the Republic of Korea Amb. Shim Yoon Joe.
Accroding to Article VI of the Statue of IAEA, for the purpose of consultations and coordination of policies on issues of mutual interest as well as elections to the bureau of the General Conference, to the Board of Governors and some other elections, the 151 membership of the Agency is divided into 8 regional groups” North America, Latin America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, Middle East and South Asia (MESA), South East Asia and the Pacific (SEAP) and the Far East.
The Far Eastern Group consists of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Mongolia and Cambodia.
The Chairperson of the Board of Governors consults with the chairpersons of regional groups in preparation for the four annual meetings of the Board as well as for the forthcoming elections. The chairpersons of groups represent the membership of that particular region at meetings with the Director General and at some other occasions.
