Mongolian athletes have participated in Winter Olympic Games 11 times beginning with Innsbruck in 1964 in the categories of crosscountry skiing, biathlon, skating and short-track.

This time, Mongolia’s athletes of cross-country skiing, short track, alpine ski and skating competed at preliminary tournaments to earn the right to participate in Vancouver, 2010. However, alpine ski and skate athletes were not able to catch up their components and need to wait until the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Kh. Khash-Erdene, who got the first permit to the nation among crosscountry ski athletes, was followed by E. Ochirsuren who also got a permit to participate in the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games as she gained a score of 237.10. However, our two athletes will race for one distance. Kh. Khash-Erdene, who raced for 15km distance at Turin-2006 Winter Olympic Games, took 86th place out of 99 athletes, will also race in the 15km event. The athletes are trained by the honored trainer L. Dorj.
The Vancouver, 2010 Winter Olympics will open on February 12 and last until February 28.
Currently, two athletes from Mongolia have the right to participate in the Winter Olympics and on January 25, the number of athletes can be increased, depending on the final name list of alpine ski athletes.
The athletes will depart from Mongolia on February 6 and Sh.Magvan, Honorable Member of International Olympic Committee, Mongolia’s National Olympic Committee President D. Zagdsuren, General Secretary J. Otgontsagaan and deputy head of Physical Culture and Sports’ Office D. Surenkhorloo will head to Vancouver, following the athletes.
For Winter Paralympics, which opens a month later, ski athletes E. Zorig and N.Sukhbaatar, will participate in the categories of LW6 and LW8 for one, five and 10 km.
