PRESIDENT DISCUSSES ABOUT DISASTERS PREVENTION

President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj received Monday parliament Speaker D.Demberel, Premier S.Batbold and other officials to get up-date on a question of vital importance for Mongolia's national security -getting through the severe winter.According to the information of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, as of 24 January 1.204,750 heads of livestock have perished.

Also manager of the Seismological Section of the Research Center of Astronomy and Geo-physics at the Academy of Sciences M.Olziibat informed about intensified researches into ways of reducing the aftermath and risks of strong earthquakes. Kh.Battulga, Minister of Road, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development, and Ts.Amgalanbayar, deputy head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), reported on "Earthquake risks of buildings" and "Measures to prevent aftermath of earthquakes, preparedness and readiness for them".

The President emphasized the importance of scientifically-based information about reducing risks, of plans for possible disasters, a unified management of state organizations. He said a decision in this regard must be taken by the National Security Council upon thorough consideration of these issues. The President decided on 22 January to hold a meeting of the National Security Council. The members of the National Security Council are the President, the Chairman of the Stage Great Hural (parliament of Mongolia) and the Prime Minister.
