The Year of the Iron Tiger begins February 14, 2010 according to the lunar calendar. Mongolia’s New Year Holiday or Tsagaan Sar is a symbolic holiday where people express respect to elders and each other, and welcome New Year’s well-being. Workshop explores nuclear test-ban treaty

A regional workshop exploring the significance of the ‘Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-ban Treaty Organization,’ (CTBTO) including its future, ratification and national implementation, will be held in Ulaanbaatar from March 15 to 16. Russians send trainload of aid to herders

Mongolia’s total territory experienced harsh wintering and herdsmen and citizens of most aimags have become very tired. Relief campaigns for herdsmen are taking place everywhere along with foreign countries who are extending helping hands.
Russian Railways (RZD) sent a train to Mongolia carrying humanitarian aid worth around 15 million rubles. On February 2, 2010, the train arrived at Ulaanbaatar station.

Action and prevention for dzud given priority

Due to the dzud disaster, 1.7 million head of livestock perished throughout the nation as of February 1, 2010. In 64 soums of 12 aimags; Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Bayan-Olgii, Gobi-Altai, Dundgobi, Ovorkhangai, Omnogobi, Zavkhan, Tov, Khovd, Khovsgol and Uvs aimags are in catastrophic conditions. In addition, 68 soums are in disaster, 71 soums and 2 villages are possible to worsen, and 27 soums of 4 aimags are having normal wintering.

State-owned universities and institutes are merged
