On October 30, 2009 Prime Minister S. Batbold called on Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the State Emergency Commission (SEC), M.Enkhbold, Health Minister S. Lambaa, and Chief of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ts.Amgalanbayar, for an update on the current H1N1/swine-flu pandemic

Development challenges focus at Bank conference

The World Bank is hosting the second Mongolia Economic Policy Conference on October 29, 2009 at the Cultural Palace with registration due by October 26. On October 21, 2009 President Ts.Elbegdorj called on Jack Weatherford, cultural anthropologist and Professor at Macalester College and author of ‘Gengghis Khaan and the Making of the Modern World’ that has been published in 22 countries and named as the New York Times’ best book.

Action Plan program

The Government approved a program to enrich the country’s foreign relations with more economy oriented policies, in order to realize its Action Plan goals. H1N1 brings school recess forward
27 October 2009

Government has resolved to bring the normal secondary schools’ two-week recess forward by one week due to the swine-flu scare. This vacation will now start on October 26 and not on November 4 as usual.
The latest count shows that 77 of the 139 infected suspects have recovered without any treatment needed. At present 28 out of 62 confirmed cases have been hospitalized for treatment and 34 are being treated at home. The conditions of three, ... More>>

According to Government estimates, the Mongolian economy is expected to grow by 1.5 percent while inflation will remain at 5.4 percent by the year-end.

The Mongolian delegation headed by its Foreign Minister next attended the October 14 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Prime Ministers’ Meeting in Beijing.

Atomic energy cooperation

France’s Areva Group CEO, Ms. Anne Lauvergeon arrived in Mongolia on October 5, 2009 for a working visit.
During her stay, a Memorandum of Understanding between Mongolia’s Atomic Energy Department (AED) and the Areva
Group was signed by S. Enkhbat, the AED’s head, and Ms. Lauvergeon to cooperate in using radioactive materials and atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
